How much you get from the Canada Child Benefit

The CCB starts from a maximum per child, then reduces it as family income rises. Two thresholds shape the whole calculation, and the reduction rates depend on how many eligible children you have.
Maxima, July 2026 to June 2027
- Child under 6: $8,157 a year ($679.75 a month).
- Child 6 to 17: $6,883 a year ($573.58 a month).
- For comparison only, the previous year (July 2025 to June 2026) paid $7,997 and $6,748.
The reduction table
| Children | Reduction between $38,237 and $82,847 AFNI | Reduction above $82,847 AFNI |
|---|---|---|
| 1 child | 7% of AFNI over $38,237 | $3,123 + 3.2% of AFNI over $82,847 |
| 2 children | 13.5% of AFNI over $38,237 | $6,022 + 5.7% of AFNI over $82,847 |
| 3 children | 19% of AFNI over $38,237 | $8,476 + 8% of AFNI over $82,847 |
| 4 or more children | 23% of AFNI over $38,237 | $10,260 + 9.5% of AFNI over $82,847 |
Below $38,237 you receive the full maximum. Between the thresholds, the first-tier rate applies. Above $82,847, the fixed amount shown already reflects the full first-tier reduction, and only the slower second-tier rate applies to income above $82,847.
Worked examples (recomputed from the formula)
Example 1 — one child under 6, AFNI $60,000. Maximum $8,157. Reduction: 7% × ($60,000 − $38,237) = 7% × $21,763 = $1,523.41. Annual CCB: $8,157 − $1,523.41 = $6,633.59, or about $552.80 a month.
Example 2 — two children (one under 6, one 6 to 17), AFNI $75,000. Maximum: $8,157 + $6,883 = $15,040. Reduction: 13.5% × ($75,000 − $38,237) = 13.5% × $36,763 = $4,963.01. Annual CCB: $15,040 − $4,963.01 = $10,076.99, or about $839.75 a month.
